What is RAiD?

RAiD - the Research Activity Identifier - is a global system, governed by ISO 23527:2022, to uniquely identify research projects, collaboratively collect and publicly share information about them.

A RAiD identifier, such as https://raid.org/10.71676/05f6fdfe , can be used by humans and machines to uniquely and unambiguously refer to a project. Even though a project can change over time, the identifier remains stable.

Each RAiD identifier is supported by a metadata record that collects information about a project: who was involved? which organisations? what resources did they draw on? what did the project produce?

Architecture

The high-level system architecture is documented on Github. The ARDC RAiD service is deployed in AWS, and the operational environment is documented in Github.

Environment

Each RAiD Registration Agency offers a RAiD Service for its community. Each RAiD Service provides both an API and a web interface with demo and production environments.

Metadata

RAiD metadata is specified by the RAiD metadata schema.
